Vision, Values & Mindset

Our School vision and motto, which was written in collaboration with our children, states that we:

Ensure that everyone reaches their full potential in a safe, supportive and encouraging learning environment.

Prepare, Progress, Prevail

Our six core values underpin everything that we do in school. They are fundamental to ensure children are able to achieve their very best in a safe and supportive environment. Each term one value is in focus and teachers look for examples of children displaying this within the school.  Children then have a chance of receiving a value wristband in our weekly Celebration Assembly; the objective being to collect all six values over the course of their school career.

Can do Kangaroo

Making a Mindset

Here at Picklenash Junior School we are keen to not only equip the children with the knowledge and skills needed to progress in life but also the mindset that allows them to really succeed.

With the introduction of our school mascot ‘Can Do Kangaroo’ the children are learning to develop a positive learning attitude that they can apply to all aspects of school and beyond.

Can Do believes in 5 key learning beliefs:

  • Everyone Can Do Maths
  • Questions are important to help us learn
  • Mistakes help us to grow our brain
  • Perseverance and resilience help us to overcome challenges
  • Depth is more important than speed

Beginning in 2018, our Can Do Kangaroo mantra was shared, chanted, learnt and embedded across all groups. We begun by initially introducing this in maths as this was an area that we found that children had the most insecurities, lacking self-belief and resilience.

After only a term it was clear that not only did the children know the beliefs but they were able to apply them themselves and identify them within others within the classroom.

Already children are achieving more, persevering with challenge and most impressively applying the beliefs beyond mathematics!

School Golden Rules

  • We listen to people, we do not interrupt.
  • We are gentle, we do not hurt anybody.
  • We are honest, we do not cover up the truth.
  • We try to work hard, we do not waste time.

British Values

Promoting Fundamental British Values

In accordance with The Department for Education we aim to actively promote British values in schools to ensure young people leave school prepared for life in modern Britain. Pupils are encouraged to regard people of all faiths, races and cultures with respect and tolerance and understand that while different people may hold different views about what is ‘right’ and ‘wrong’, all people living in England are subject to its law.

The Key Values are:

  • democracy
  • rule of law
  • individual liberty
  • mutual respect
  • tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs
